Very original, important antique Tehran (Persia) rug, circa 1930 High-quality silky wool velvet on cotton backing. Good overall condition. Prussian blue field with a mihrab richly decorated with crenellated branching in ivory twists, adorned with a finely drawn lyre-ended vase surrounded by a thousand flowers, stylized birds and two vases in symmetry and polychrome. Double arabesque spandrels of flowers inlaid with birds taking flight. Five borders, the main one in turquoise with a highly original decoration of starry flowers.
