Son of Jean dit le Sage and Jeanne de France, daughter of Charles VI and Isabeau de Bavière; succeeded his brother François, Duke of Brittany, following the Treaty of Guérande, which excluded daughters from the succession; established the nine baronies of the Duchy of Brittany. P.S. S.l.n.d. (Nantes, circa 1450). Vellum (30 x 22 cm); text slightly faded. Letter from "Pierre par la grâce de Dieu duc de Bretaigne comte de Montfort et de Richemont" confirming Pierre de La Marzelière "notre cher bien amé et féal Chambelain et conseiller (...) chevalier cappitaine et garde de notre forteresse de Hédé" in this position, at a salary of 100 livres per annum payable from the revenues of the said capitainerie, "en ayant esgart et considéracion aux honourables et loyaux services que ledit de La Marzelière a faiz dès son jeune asge en notre maison. " The Duke of Brittany also confirms him in the offices of justice and others of the said chattellenie "with power to mectre and restitute from us the ydoines and suffisans officers and subcessively after the death of my lord and father, my late lord brother the Duke François" and revokes and annuls "all other letters by us baillées or to bailler against."
