[CHARLES VI]. 1368-1422. King of France. - Lot 104
[CHARLES VI]. 1368-1422. King of France. Letter of nobility in favor of Jacques du Gard. Orleans, April 26, 1388. Oblong vellum (46 x 25.5 cm), in Latin. Fragment of green wax seal on red and green silk cord. Browned stain, marked fold; apostille post. Very rare title of ennoblement under the reign of Charles VI, attributed to Jacques du Gard, a member of the Paris Parlement in 1400 and Maitre des requêtes de l'Hôtel in 1417, belonging to an ancient family originally from Picardy. Letters patent given "by the king in the presence of the duke of Burgundy" [countersigned by G. de la Fons] confirming the nobility of Jacques du Gard, son of Jean, and stipulating: (...) we make him noble (...) with all those he will beget from legitimate marriage (...) we want him and all his posterity to be of renowned chivalry (...). In testimony, we have affixed our seal to these letters (...).
