Bassompierre, imprisoned for twelve years by order of Richelieu, released on the latter's death (1642), asks Mazarin to end his exile. If my exile had not been added to the twelve years of my previous imprisonment, its shortness would not give me cause to complain (...), but as I know that I have been imprisoned for a long time (...), I would not have complained (...).), but as I am sure that it has been ordered against Your Eminence's wishes, and that his intention was not to overburden my long suffering with this new burden, I want aussy (exercise) of his kindness that he will have a particular day to release a person who makes himself worthy of this grace (...).
