Eugène Girardet was an Orientalist painter who evolved during the second half of the 19th century. He began his career in Jean-Léon Gérôme's studio, before moving on to the horizons of North Africa, where he discovered the luminosity of the Orient, with its subtle, warm colors. He traveled several times to the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, where our painting is located.
