Lobi, Burkina Faso - Lot 1

Lobi, Burkina Faso Heavy hardwood statue, old earthy patina. H _80 cm The figure is distinguished by its helmet-like headdress, "typical of ancient Teése healers [...] with small braids falling over the shoulders" (Bognolo, 2007, p. 132). The influence of the archetypal Teése style can also be seen in the elegance of the slender silhouette, in the dynamism of the posture - accentuated by the arms freed from the body and the muscular masses giving rhythm to the composition - and in the care given to the rendering of anatomical details, including in particular the - rare - figuration of the clavicles.
