[MUSIC]. [LULLY (Jean-Baptiste)]. Manuscript collection of 3 - Lot 118
[MUSIC]. [LULLY (Jean-Baptiste)]. Manuscript collection of 319 pages containing: Atis, Phaëton, Armide, Bellorophon, l'Idille de Sceaux, la Grotte de Versailles (suivie d'un Ballet), Roland, le Temple de la Paix, Amadis, and Thétis et Pélée by Colasse. S.l.n.d. (first half of the 18th century). In-4° oblong, speckled vellum, ribbed spine, red morocco title page (contemporary binding).
It comprises: 319 pages of handwritten music (a few blank leaves between operas), 7 blank staff leaves at the end of the collection (last page number: 326). The table is inscribed on the back cover. "L'Idille de Sceaux" and "La Grotte de Versailles" have a separate pagination overlaid by the general numbering, indicating that their copies pre-existed the constitution of the collection.
Handwritten musical score for the second violin part in several of Lully's most important operas, with numerous remarks on chorus and orchestral repeats, and on the words of the arias played.
Board slightly distorted by damp, corners missing on the first two leaves with some loss.
Rare document probably from an opera house.
