Louis XV period curved chest of drawers Satinwood and amaran - Lot 113
Louis XV period curved chest of drawers Satinwood and amaranth veneered curved chest of drawers. It opens on three rows with four drawers, including two in the first row and two with recessed rails. The front and sides are decorated with diamond points, crosses and friezes in banded surrounds. Chased and gilded bronze trim: shell lock escutcheons, leafy handles, apron, falls and sabots. Belgian red griotte marble top with corbin. Paris. First half of the 18th century. Circa 1735. Attributed to Pierre IV Migeon H_ 86 cm W_ 163 cm D_ 70 cm Restoration. The diary of Pierre IV Migeon names no less than fourteen commode designations: à la Régence, en tombeau, en arbalètes, à la bibliothèque, etc. - mainly with three rows of drawers known as "en tombeau", followed by those with two rows of drawers. While most are very simple, others are more imaginative and inventive, both in their veneered or inlaid decorations and in the bronzes they are enriched with. Around 1735, the workshop of Pierre IV Migeon supplied commodes of tomb-like form, with powerful curves, veneered with discreet plays on the wood grain and skilfully arranged, which are characteristic of this cabinetmaker's style. The chest of drawers we present here belongs to this production period, whose similar shapes, decorations and bronzes reinforce the attribution to Migeon.
