BEAUTIFUL LETTER FROM EXILE, evoking the Court and her husband the Duc d'Angoulême. "I send you (...) the receipt for the first three months of the year. Yesterday I received my husband's power of attorney and that of his father, and I have had the duc d'Havré attach to the form you sent me what I should say. Have them read and tell me if it's right (...). Yesterday she received "fresh" news from her husband the Duc d'Angoulême, who arrived with the King [Louis XVIII] at the Prince de Condé's, to spend a few days there. "Everyone was well except Mr d'Avaray, whose health is very poor. At the same time, I received a lot of old, overdue letters. I'm afraid that ice and events will further interfere with my correspondence with my husband, who is my only consolation in his absence (...)." She asks you to tell Mlle de Chaulne that you have received her letter and that she will reply as soon as she has received the package she announces. "I thank you for the zeal you put into my husband's affairs, and I ask you to continue (...). My husband adds that he has no means of corresponding with Spain or even with you; but that he has taken advantage of the departure of the Austrian legation to send you the blank signatures (...). On the facing page, an autograph copy of a power of attorney from the Duc d'Angoulême, backdated to Gosfield near London, this Monday, December 14, 1808 [sic].
