LEBRUN (Charles-François). 1739-1824. Deputy, 3rd Consul, Ar - Lot 69
LEBRUN (Charles-François). 1739-1824. Deputy, 3rd Consul, Architrésorier de l'Empire. L.A.S. to Napoleon. S.l.n.d. (1806?). 1 p. folio. Concerning an apology for Napoleon, composed by Lebrun, shortly after the victory of Austerlitz. "I would beg Your Majesty's pardon if I thought I had deserved to displease him. I did publish a few sentences from his letter. We thought we saw and heard it; our friends were reassured; the malicious were silenced. If you had been, Sire, Alexander of Russia or Francis of Austria, I would have been careful not to do the same. Today, I no longer need to make you speak, your victories speak loudly enough and there are no longer any unbelievers (...)". He wished to send his reply to Prince Eugène; he did not keep the minute, but will send him his apology. Former Charavay collection
