BAUDELAIRE (Charles). 1821-1867. Writer and poet. - Lot 60
BAUDELAIRE (Charles). 1821-1867. Writer and poet. L.A.S. "C.B." to Casimir de Rode, director of the Revue Internationale in Geneva. (Paris, December 20, 1859). 1 p. in-4 (ink has eaten through the paper in places); envelope with postmark enclosed. The writer's reproaches, complaining of the lightness with which his verses are treated; the Geneva review had just published, with many errors, Baudelaire's translation of Edgar Allan Poe's Eureka. "Today, the 20th, I still don't have the number of the 5th, so once again I won't have any proofs. I assure you that you will end up disgracing me. Not only does philosophy need absolute correction, but all the printers alter the verses. In one of your issues I counted, one after the other, several completely wrong ones (...)." He adds on p.s. "I still had verses, but, my goodness! It frightens me too much (...). Whether you wish to alter anything, or not to send proofs, I think it would be better not to print them." Published in the Correspondance de la Pléiade (tome 1, page 642) Former Armand Godoy collection (n°38)
