LA FAYETTE (Georges-Washington de). 1779-1849. Military, son - Lot 128
LA FAYETTE (Georges-Washington de). 1779-1849. Military, son of the Marquis de La Fayette. L.A.S. La Grange, December 3, 1826. 1 pp. ¼ bi-feuillet in-8. Correspondence probably relating to support for the 1826 legislative candidacy; he sends his correspondent a letter from the Prefect of Indre et Loire, signed by his father, and relies on Lepecq's letter. "(...) Don't you think it would be well done to push back Mr. Cheronnet a little sharply afin to rid us as soon as possible of his opposition (...)." He thanks him for his wishes for the recovery of his brother-in-law, Louis de Lasteyrie [he will die the following day, December 4]; "we were quite alarmed the day before yesterday (...). It has been 60 days since he fell ill (...)." ATTACHED a "Patriotic proposal to reward LAFAYETTE HEROS DE LA GARDE NATIONALE (...) from the leader of the Ste Geneviève section: None of us can conceal from ourselves the important services that Monsieur de Lafayette has rendered to the Patrie, and it is unquestionably to the honor of the Parisian army to consider ways of rendering this general the honors due to him, and to seek to compensate him for the losses caused to him by the Revolution through the excessive expenses he has been obliged to incur (...)". Several measures are proposed, including offering land from the national domains; erecting a monument dedicated to Lafayette, in the shape of a pyramid with revolutionary symbols; commissioning PALLOY to engrave one of the stones of the Bastille in his honor; that he should later be buried in the Pantheon, etc. A deputation will be charged with making proposals to the National Assembly. Enclosed is an extract from the minutes of the assembly of the National Guard a sword of honor of the Guard with details of the inscriptions on the blade, signed by captain aide-major Seignes." (2 handwritten documents. October 1791. 3 pp. two-sheet in-4 and 1 pp. in-8).
