SOLDIER'S LETTER - POSTS
L.A.S. to his father. Drisen, November 18, 1807. 4 pp. bifeuillet in-4.
Letter from a legal officer to the 5e Cuirassiers, discussing the organization of the post in the Grande Armée. "My dear father (...) I was extremely flattered by the expressions of interest shown to me by Mr. Général de Division St-Sulpice at his Headquarters; it is believed that he will return to Paris to perform his service as equerry to H.M. (...). It is useless to address letters in a city. The army is supposed to be in a camp. Here is the organization of the army posts. All letters from France leave from Mainz and go to the main post office, and there they are sent to their destination in the various army corps; there is an office in each division, and the vaguemestres of each regiment making up the division pick up the letters from their headquarters every two days; so my real address is: 5e Régiment de Cuirassiers, 2e Division de Grosse Cavalerie (...)." All the officers in his regiment are very appreciative of their colonel, who has managed to "win everyone's esteem and love" (...) I don't know when I'll see you again, but I can't wait. Is there talk in Paris that the army will be returning soon? The only news we have here is what our newspapers tell us (...). He has moved to Stargart, to the Prince's reserve cavalry staff, and his colonel is currently in Berlin.
