Malesherbes has discussed his return to France with Abbé Barthélémy and the Comte de Caylus; "(...) The desire we have to see you again is surely one of the motives which has led us (...) to make this journey, except to return to India (...)". In the meantime, he sends him his compliments on the "tireless zeal which leads you to undertake for the progress of science what the greediest men do not dare to undertake for their fortune (...)".
