MADAME ADÉLAÏDE (Eugène-Adélaïde-Louise d’Orléans). - Lot 255
MADAME ADÉLAÏDE (Eugène-Adélaïde-Louise d’Orléans). 1777–1847. Daughter of Philippe-Égalité, younger sister of Louis-Philippe. 2 autograph letters (to Dupin). Neuilly, June 9; July 18, 1839. 3 pp. on a double-leaf in-8 sheet; crowned initials “AO” stamped in the corner. “I am very sorry to hear that you are so unwell and far away, though you are by no means forgotten in Neuilly (…), my brother spoke of you and your illness, which we all share in (…).” She asks the person delivering the note to pass on news, adding: “Do you have a fever? Or just that awful headache I know so well; from experience, I truly sympathize with you (…).” To Dupin, regarding the replacement of Borel as head of the council, which Louis-Philippe had agreed to; since this appointment did not take place immediately, she was unable to inform him in time. “Some time ago, my brother had agreed with me to call upon you to replace Mr. Borel (…). When you came yesterday evening, I still did not know that he had signed it the day before yesterday before leaving Paris, for he had neglected to tell me that the matter had been settled (…). I deeply regretted this oversight on his part, as it deprived me of the pleasure of informing you myself (…). My brother had me read the letter you wrote to him, which he had not yet read when he saw you (…).”
