MARIE-AMÉLIE of Bourbon-Sicily. - Lot 261
MARIE-AMÉLIE of Bourbon-Sicily. 1782–1866. Queen of the French. 2 autograph letters to her dear Vic. Written in Eu on August 18, 1845, and in Saint-Cloud on November 12, 1845. 4 pp. ½ double-leaf in-8, crowned initials “MA” stamped in the corner. LETTER TO HER DAUGHTER-IN-LAW, THE DUCHESS OF NEMOURS, WHILE ON AN OFFICIAL TRIP TO BAYONNE IN THE SOUTHWEST, giving news of her children. She is concerned for the duchess’s health, hoping that renewed exertions will not cause a relapse. “(…) Take care of yourselves, both of you, for all of us who hold you so dear and precious (…). The telegraph informed them that “the Piat was leaving on the 9th for Rhodes, Smyrna, and Constantinople. Your love is going wonderfully and is a source of great joy to me. Blache is very keen on having Gaston take sea baths (…).” / She thanks her wholeheartedly for her letter. “(…) I regret that I cannot eat the fried fish prepared by the pond with you.” She handed “to the father” [the king] the papers she had been entrusted with; he arrived yesterday satisfied with his errand, “but in a great uproar over the unnecessary and even dangerous precautions with which he is surrounded and which were the cause of the incident you will read about in the newspaper. As we were leaving the table, we found Gabriel, who came to read us the accident report; the footman who dropped the pistol is Boisson (…). ” She gives news of Gaston, who is “very pale and quite thin,” “Alençon being a bit sullen as well,” and “Minette, whose skin on her forehead and chin is still a bit flaky (…) She’s also suffering a bit from her teeth.” Dr. Blache had them take wild pansy syrup and rhubarb wine. “But all these little people were very sweet and kind. Victoria was very disappointed by the disruption to the Belgians’ trip (…). I have good news about Clem (…).”
