MARIE-AMELIE of Bourbon-Sicily. 1782–1866. Queen of the French. 3 letters (including one from her secretary). Claremont, September 6, 1851; June 18, 1853; March 9, 1865. 2 pp. in-4, 4 pp. on rice paper (damaged with holes and a small tear), and 1 p. double-leaf in-8. CORRESPONDENCE FROM EXILE. 1851. To President Dupin (secretary), thanking him for the sentiments he holds “toward the cherished and revered memory of the husband, the father, and the King whom we mourn more and more each day.” ” The queen thanks him for the Mass said for the king at Raffigny, then mentions the severe floods in France, lamenting that she cannot offer her assistance, before giving news of the family: “The trip we took to Scotland did us a world of good; it is a beautiful and wonderful country. Hélène and her children left for Germany eight days ago. We are expecting Aumale next week; he is coming from Seville, where he attended the birth of my seventh granddaughter (…) and will return to Naples to be with his wife.” 1853. Letter to Father ***, thanking him for his prayers for the king and giving news of his grandchildren staying with the Duchess of Orléans in Kittley. 1865. Letter to the Mother Superior of the Sisters of Charity of Neuilly. Mr. Navarro, the grandson of the woman who raised me and in whom I take a great interest, is seriously ill at Mr. Chambey’s home (…). I ask you to visit him, care for him, and above all, speak to him—and especially to him—about the salvation of his soul with that Christian charity that is the spirit of your institute. I will join my prayers with yours (…).”
