Provenance: Galerie Pellat de Villedon
Adrien Delorme belonged to a family of Parisian cabinetmakers. Following in the footsteps of his father, François Faizelot-Delorme, he produced pieces in Chinese lacquer, fully embracing the Louis XV style, as demonstrated by the commode in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam (inv. no. BK-16652). The commode presented here is a fine example of the taste for the exotic during the reign of Louis XV and the use of European varnishes in imitation of Chinese lacquer, of which Adrien Delorme was a highly recognized specialist and appreciated by a large clientele.
