Récupération et artisanat se rejoignent dans la série Real de Gijs Bakker. Ces objets sont des hybrides, entre des bijoux trouvés sur des costumes, faits de pâtes-de-verre colorées sans valeur, et des versions rétrécies d'ornements utilisant l'or, l'argent et les pierres précieuses. Bakker rassemble ces deux objets, l'un vrai, l'autre faux, en un même bijou. Le résultat est un mélange de l'innocence et du faux-semblant. Real. The found and the handmade come together in Gijs Bakker's REAL Series. These objects are two part hybrids incorporating found costume jewels - made of worthless colored paste - and miniature versions of those pieces using gold, silver, and precious stones.Bakker joins these two objects together into a single wearable brooch or ring. The results are disorienting in the extreme, traditional in appearance but strangely off-kilter in shape, and (as the title of the series wryly signals) a confusing mélange of the genuine and the fake. Contemporary jewellery design doesn't shy away from costume jewellery deforming citations from the past.
