Copper-engraved frontispiece showing an owl, printed on strong wove paper.
Anonymous engraving of great rarity. According to Maurice Bazy, this image representing an owl was a tribute to Nicolas-Edme Restif de La Bretonne (1734-1806), the author of the Nuits de Paris, nicknamed "the Owl" or "the Night Spectator" because of his nocturnal wanderings in the Capital.
The book has been printed on a very fragile paper: two tears have been skilfully restored
