In-12 [192 x 127] of 272 pp, (4) ff. the last one blank : brown half-chagrin, spine ribbed, untrimmed, cover preserved (period binding). Second edition, published the same year as the original. Copy of Robert de Flers, one of the author's closest friends. It is enriched with a very beautiful autograph letter signed on the first blank page: To Robert de Flers // His friend who always // remembers // the first dinners at // Madame de Rozière's // Affectionately // Marcel Proust This is one of the most remarkable provenance that can be found. Robert de Flers was indeed one of Proust's few close friends, the youthful friends to whom the novelist remained faithful throughout his life, such as Lucien Daudet, Robert de Billy and Robert Dreyfus. The friendship between Marcel Proust and Robert Ango de la Motte-Ango, Count and later Marquis de Flers (1872-1927) dates back to 1892. In a letter of January 1893 addressed to Robert Billy, he confided: "There is nothing extremely changed in my sentimental life, except that I have found a friend [...]. It is the young and charming, and intelligent, and good, and tender Robert de Flers." Playwright and literary director of the Figaro, he was elected to the Académie française in 1920. In his dedication, Proust refers to Madame de Rozière. She was the maternal grandmother of Robert de Flers, with whom he spent part of his youth. This copy completes the collection of the Recherche that was in the library of Pierre Bergé, with five consignments from Marcel Proust to Robert de Flers and bound in unison (cat. I, 2015, n° 147). Spine slightly faded, cracks at the hinges, missing head cover and a spine. Cover soiled and leaves yellowed.
